In the hospitality industry, consistently delivering quick and quality service is a constant challenge. An example is serving expertly crafted cocktails, which heavily depends on how many skilled mixologists you’ve got and if your ingredients are on deck.
In recent years, an innovative device is changing the game, allowing bars, hotels, resorts, salons, restaurants, casinos, theatres and sports venues to serve lounge-quality drinks in a flash. An “intelligent cocktail maker” called the Bartesian automates the art of cocktail making.
The idea to develop this smart machine was inspired by the personal experience of Bartersian‘s CEO and founder, Ryan Close, who worked as a bartender during his college years. Then a newbie bartender, he would often get nervous when customers ordered complicated cocktails because these required a long list of ingredients, multiple steps, and a level of mixology expertise that he hadn’t yet developed.
“After a hard day’s work, I’d want to make my favourite cocktail at home, but there were often times when I wouldn’t have all the proper ingredients stocked,” the Western University Business graduate shared in a blog interview.

Thinking back on these experiences, Close thought it would be awesome to provide at-home hosts an easy, no-fuss solution to make premium cocktails, so they could enjoy more time with their guests and loved ones. To do this, he collaborated with a talented team of designers, engineers, and mixology enthusiasts in developing Bartesian, which was launched in 2019.

How does the Bartesian work?
The Bartesian is a sleek and compact machine that allows users to custom-make fantastic cocktails like a pro in seconds. A set comes with a Bartesian cocktail maker, five 26-oz glass spirit bottles with labelled lids (vodka, whiskey, rum, gin, tequila), one removable power cord, and one removable Bartesian bar mat. A Duet machine comes only with two 26-oz capacity glass spirit bottles.

Cocktail capsules (much like the coffee pods consumers are accustomed to) are sold separately. Every recyclable cocktail pod contains premium, all-natural ingredients, such as bitters, essences, juices, and everything necessary to craft the perfect cocktail. All you need to do is load the Bartesian with your preferred vodka, whiskey, rum, gin, and tequila, pop in a cocktail capsule, choose your desired drink strength (mocktail, light, regular, or strong), and let the Bartesian do the rest.
According to its website, Bartesian currently features a selection of over 40 classic cocktails, seasonal delights, and signature beverages like Margarita, Old Fashioned, Cosmopolitan, Lemon Drop, and Uptown Rocks. New cocktail flavours are added each month, ensuring users always have a diverse selection to enjoy. Interestingly, the website also boasts a profitability calculator that encourages businesses to observe the cost benefits of switching to Bartesian, at a glance.
