Gut health, the delicate balance and function of bacteria within the gastrointestinal tract, is now acknowledged by medical experts as a cornerstone of overall well-being. Beyond facilitating the effective digestion and absorption of nutrients, a healthy gut is pivotal in maintaining a robust immune system, underscoring its critical role in our health.
Some studies suggest gut bacteria can influence metabolism and weight management. There is also increasing evidence that gut health is linked to mental health.

Probiotics, Prebiotics, and Postbiotics
Two things are commonly associated with an individual’s gut health — probiotics and prebiotics. “Probiotics are foods or supplements that contain live microorganisms intended to maintain or improve the ‘good’ bacteria (normal microflora) in the body,” according to the Mayo Clinic. Prebiotics, on the other hand, are “foods (typically high-fibre foods) that act as food for human microflora.”
An emerging aspect in this domain is postbiotics.
Unlike probiotics (live bacteria) and prebiotics (food for bacteria), postbiotics are inanimate or non-viable bacterial products or metabolic byproducts from probiotics that offer health benefits.
Specialising in the production of postbiotics and a range of wholesome functional foods, is Malaysian healthcare company My Myracle. Founded in March 2020, their postbiotics are
developed based on the findings of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) professors Dr. Foo Hooi Ling and Dr. Loh Teck Chwen. UPM is a public research university located in Selangor.
My Myracle has successfully commercialised postbiotics on a large scale and was granted BioNexus status in 2022 by the Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation, or BiotechCorp (now known as the Malaysian Bioeconomy Corporation). This status is awarded to biotechnology companies in Malaysia that are involved in and demonstrate significant involvement in biotechnology and life sciences.

Halal-Certified Postbiotics – A first-of-its-kind
Unlike other postbiotics, the ones produced by My Myracle are produced through halal bacteria bioreactor fermentation extracted from high-nutrient foods such as tapioca, boiled fish, tempeh, and others.
“The use of halal bacteria in My Miracle’s products is a very important aspect because it reflects the company’s commitment to producing high quality and safe products for consumers, especially Muslims,” managing director Chin Kok Tian said in a documentary published on YouTube.
Most of the beneficial bacteria used in fermentation are derived from cow milk, plants, and faecal matter, Chin told Nutra Ingredients Asia. However, if the bacteria are sourced from faecal matter, obtaining halal certification in Muslim countries is impossible. Kosher certification also cannot be obtained in such cases. My Myracle’s facility has so far achieved accreditations such as HACCP, Halal, and MeSTI.
According to information provided on the company’s official website, postbiotics contain short-chain fatty acids, vitamins, antioxidant compounds, hydrolytic enzymes, natural antimicrobial peptides (like bacteriocins), and other natural bioactive compounds. Bacteriocins are protein molecules that kill microbes such as bacteria and fungi.
Postbiotics enhance the overall gut environment and maintain homeostasis, or a state of balance, by promoting the growth of beneficial probiotic bacteria. This, in turn, helps suppress harmful pathogenic bacteria. Postbiotics also boost the immune response of the gut barrier, leading to an improved overall immune status as gut health is restored.

A Safer Option
The company claims that postbiotics are much safer than probiotics and prebiotics because no foreign microorganisms are introduced into the body. “Postbiotics will improve the overall gut environment and allow the existing normal microflora in the gut to live and grow well to suppress the pathogenic bacteria in the gut,” it says.
Meanwhile, probiotics rely on live bacteria, which may become opportunistic pathogens in immunocompromised patients. Horizontal Antibiotic Resistance (AMR) gene transfer, the process by which bacteria share genetic material—including antibiotic resistance genes—with other bacteria, could also occur between pathogens and probiotics or vice versa.
Currently, My Miracle offers two types of postbiotic preparations: a 5 ml liquid form and a 5g powder form. Both types are conveniently packaged in sachets, with 20 sachets per box. These may be consumed directly or mixed with food or drinks. Individuals with a gastrointestinal tract sensitive to acidic conditions should consume postbiotics with or after a meal. The company recommends that adults take 5–10 ml of postbiotics once or twice a day, depending on their age and health condition.
Chin says they named the company My Myracle to symbolise their vision of Malaysia introducing this miracle to the world.
